TRANSPARENCY

Courtney Zheng is a brand for the global citizen, with a focus on social, economic, and environmental impact.

[VALUES]

The company fosters a culture of collaboration where every team member, whether in the workshop in China or the Sydney office, is encouraged to contribute ideas, share insights, and work together to achieve common goals. The brand places a strong emphasis on diversity, autonomy, trust, and support.

By adopting a collaborative mindset, where brands uplift one another, share resources, and engage in open discussions about strategies, we have the potential to enhance the overall image of the Australian market. Together, we have the opportunity to create a powerful narrative that reflects the strength and unity of the Australian creative community, making a lasting impact on the global stage.

Motivated by the experience of my parents, I am committed to advocating for better education, resources, protection, and legal representation for small business owners. Individuals from marginalised backgrounds are often vulnerable to exploitation by those in positions of privilege, particularly when complex company structures are used to evade responsibilities, leaving suppliers unpaid (a common phenomenon).

The industry needs a watchdog dedicated to calling out individuals or entities engaged in unethical practices, particularly when they exploit the vulnerability of POC. There is still a lot of progress to be made in order to create a fair and just industry that prioritises accountability, transparency, and equal treatment for all participants.

[SUSTAINABILITY]

As a diaspora Chinese Australian designer, Courtney lends her unique perspective, industry experience, and language skills to bring meaningful change.

In the 80s and 90s, the main engine of China’s rapid economic growth was the manufacturing industry. Both the environmental problems and the extent of their adverse long-term impact, are extraordinary. Courtney handles all product development at her family’s workshop in Guangzhou, where she is faced with the magnitude of the textiles market.

Courtney Zheng is committed to change. We have the means to empower many individuals, provide them with livelihoods through employment, and leave lasting effects on multi-generational families. We hopes to influence the communities in which we work through mindset change, personal efforts, guaranteeing the well-being of the people, and promoting fairness and justice.

Current operations involve environmentally friendly methods of product development, sustained reduction of waste and the utilisation of waste as a resource (deadstock fabrics). Both the Sydney office and Guangzhou workshop are completely solar-powered.
